Minister Reminds Employers to Register Drivers with Statutory Bodies

Minister Reminds Employers to Register Drivers with Statutory Bodies
Minister of Labour and Social Security, Brenda Tambatamba, has reminded employers in Zambia that registering with NAPSA (National Pension Scheme Authority) and other statutory bodies is mandatory for all drivers, as it is crucial for their security and well-being.
Speaking during the United Federation of Employers in Zambia (UFEZ) Safe drivers workshop, Tambatamba noted that registration of drivers to statutory institutions ensures drivers have pension and health security, protecting them from poverty in retirement.
She underscored that failure by employers to register drivers with statutory institutions such as NAPSA, National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA), and Workers Compensation Fund is a violation of the law stating that government will enforce the law if employers violate the laws meant to protect workers, such as drivers.
Tambatamba also urged employers to provide decent working conditions, guaranteeing human conditions of service, including contracts outlining salaries, leave, and statutory obligations.
She added that employers should ensure fair compensation, as it is a foundation of decent work, and avoid excessive working hours that can lead to fatigue and accidents.
The Minister called on employers to prioritize driver safety and build responsible enterprises.
Meanwhile, UFEZ President Humphrey Monde has called on the Ministry of Transport and Logistics and Ministry of Local Government to intervene in the indiscriminate parking of vehicles along Freedom Way Central Business District (CBD), as it poses a death trap for the public.
